From April 2009 to March 2010 I have spent one year at the Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, studying at the faculty for Fashion Technologies. The curriculum follows a very strict guideline focusing on the technical features of dress making such as pattern making and sewing. I found myself going crazy on colors, details and ornaments, since the guidelines did not allow any fundamental design changes within the patterns of the designated piece of clothing that was to be made. Maybe that is why Japanese fashion tends to be quite loud?
The way fashion illustration is being taught is also quite conservative. But on the other hand you become quite precise in expressing textures and details.
